DedBoi - an investigative solo TTRPG

Created by Critical Kit Ltd

You wake up dead. It’s a lot to take in, but there’s no time for philosophising- you’ll need to travel between Earth, Heaven and Hell to figure out whodunnit, howdunnit, and whydunnit. A game about death, levity and finding out hard truths.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Fulfilment back on track
23 days ago – Tue, Aug 25, 2026 at 07:28:28 AM

Hey there,

Firstly I want to apologise for not getting this news to you sooner. I've been juggling a few issues we've come up against, but now I'm happy to say we are picking up where we left off.

Fulfilment is over 50% complete, but we have had a few things to navigate that occurred right in the middle of our fulfilment.

1. EU EPR.
The EU brought in a new law regarding packaging which would have cost us a ridiculous amount of money to comply with, as well as an administrative nightmare. We've managed to get a fulfilment partner to solve this issue and all EU fulfilment is making its way to the Netherlands right now. Once they land it will take one or two days for everything to be sent out and the tracking numbers to be updated. We hope that will happen next week.

2. USA
We recently had a business customer receive a big tariff bill, thanks to someone who gets excited about tariffs. In view of that we have sent all remaining fulfilment for the States out to our partner in Tennessee, who is currently working through everything and should be finished by next week.

Everywhere else.
We are sending out ROW, Australia, Canada next week.

This means we are looking to have fulfilment complete before the end of next week.

Thank you for your patience and apologies for not relaying this sooner. I've only just got all of these issues resolved by working out deals and getting the products to the relevant warehouses as well as dealing with the admin related to these new fulfilment services.

Going forward, our new international fulfilment setup will make things smoother.

All the best,

Tim

Physical copies are here + Human Slop!
3 months ago – Thu, Jun 11, 2026 at 12:35:46 AM

Hey all,

Dead excited to let you know that the physical copies of DedBoi landed yesterday. I know this because, along with Sarah, I lifted seven boxes of them off the back of a DPD van:

Which means, come Monday, fulfilment will begin! The zines look fab, with the Spot UV and recycled paper, but I would be remiss not to tell you they are not perfect.

I found two small typos. Human slop, am I right?

Back to that in a moment. Let's look at the book first.

The typos make no difference to the end product  or the playability of the game, and both of them involve one letter that can be removed in the next print.

The process for our books is this. I write them, then send them to our proofreader. She comes back a week or so later with a couple of hundred typos, grammatical issues, suggestions to improve wording and a level of polishing that is way beyond my capabilities.

I then go through those changes and, inevitably, because I am human, I miss one (or two in this case). Anyway, what we have here is a true representation of humans making art. Not perfect, but it works for both me (giving meaning to my existence) and you (getting something joyful out of my creations).

And you have proof of a first edition which means when I am a DedBoi, it might be worth 50p more.

All of this is to say, I didn't have to mention any typos, but I want it to be something to celebrate. Humans make mistakes all the time. Humans.

Okay, that's all for now. It's early for me and I have to get myself to the office to start figuring out the getting these books to you part of the fun.

Wishing you a wonderful rest of the week.

Production update with photos!
4 months ago – Thu, May 07, 2026 at 03:30:05 AM

Hey fellow DedBois,

I have some great news from the afterlife.

Layouts are nearly finished (check out some examples below), and I can say I have had a lot of fun designing this game, both mechanically and visually. Whilst some of the art is mine, I've also done some grave-robbing from public domain artists of yore. Important note, even though a lot of the artists are dead, they are still humans (no AI here). Although, van Gogh is a bit suss. What are we thinking, alien or time traveller?

The playing cards are done and already on their way to us. We're expecting them to arrive within the next 7–10 days. Here are some sub-standard photos from our printer. I'll share better ones when I have the cards.

The PDF is on track to land in your inboxes before the end of the month, so you'll be able to start investigating your untimely demise very soon. I just need our fabulous proof-reader to remove all the errors that I, a so-called writer, introduce into the mix.

We're planning to begin fulfilment in the last week of May, though it'll likely run into June as we'll be at UK Games Expo at the end of the month, and that always messes up our best-laid plans. Anyway, if you're going to be there, come and say hello!

As always, thank you for your support, and I'll be back from the dead with another update next week.

Surveys are out + Tuck Box Preview
5 months ago – Tue, Apr 14, 2026 at 04:59:09 AM

Hey there,

As mentioned in yesterday's update, the surveys are now out. You can add your shipping info, settle the shipping costs and pick up anything extra you'd like during surveys.

(if you missed the campaign, the preorder store is open here).

We're aiming to begin fulfilment in the second-half of May and it will likely take us around 4 weeks to get everything out. I'll keep you updated over the coming few weeks as to where things are/photos etc.

In the meantime, here is a mockup of the Tuckbox for the cards. The reverse has the DedBoi skull as featured on the Ace of Diamonds from the deck.

If you didn't grab the cards, you can still do so from the add-ons (or grab them from our store later) as we are producing a thousand decks this time around.

I'm getting ready to head to New York for BookCon this weekend, but I'll still be posting updates if I have any news, as well as responding to questions here.
